Suit: Woman Fired for Wearing Prosthetic Genitalia

A Pennsylvania woman has filed a discrimination lawsuit against her former employer, alleging she was fired for wearing prosthetic genitalia to work. In the suit, the woman said she wore the device under her clothing because she is “considering a gender change.” The woman also claims that a male employee in her office had worn “female prosthetic devices” to work while taking hormone treatments and was not terminated. Supreme Court Sides with Church in Teacher Firing

The U.S. Supreme Court has sided with a church school in a lawsuit filed by a former teacher fired by the church. The lawsuit claimed the teacher had been fired after taking a leave of absence to deal with an illness. The Supreme Court, however, ruled that the First Amendment “guarantees” free exercise of religion, and that decisions about religious employees should be kept out of government hand. Opponents of the court’s ruling say the church was using religion to thinly hide acts of discrimination protected in the Americans with Disabilities Act.

A California woman has filed a lawsuit against the makers of Tropicana Orange Juice, accusing the company of falsely advertising its product as “100% pure and natural.” The lawsuit claims the orange juice is actually put through “extensive processing, adding aromas and flavors that change its ‘essential nature’ and give it a longer shelf life.” Tropicana charges premium prices for the supposedly “100% natural” juice, the suit states, but is violating consumer fraud laws.

Woman Sexually Assaulted in Hotel Room Sues Hotel

A New York investment banker has filed a lawsuit against the Starwood Hotels chain after she was sexually assaulted in her hotel room in Finland last year. The lawsuit claims one of the front desk clerks gave an intoxicated man a key to the woman’s room without asking for identification. The plaintiff said she quit her job as a result of the trauma, and is seeking unspecified damages for “gross negligence, economic loss, physical and emotional distress and pain and suffering.”

Suit Filed Over Fatal Buttocks Surgery

Two lawsuits have been filed over the death of a Las Vegas woman in a botched plastic surgery operation on her buttocks. Authorities say the Columbian couple that performed the surgery was operating an illegal medical practice in Las Vegas. The victim died after an “unusual reaction” to lidocaine, the Las Vegas Review Journal Reports. The defendants are currently serving four to eight years in prison for the woman’s death.

A Wisconsin man has filed a lawsuit against PepsiCo, claiming he found a dead mouse inside a can of Mountain Dew he purchased. He also claims he sent the mouse to Pepsi in a Mason jar, but they “destroyed the evidence.” In response, Pepsi had a scientist testify on the company’s behalf, saying it was impossible for a rodent to make it through the bottling process because its body “would have dissolved into a jelly-like substance.”

Potenial New Child Labor Laws Could Affect Farmers

The U.S. Department of Labor has submitted a proposal that would implement radical changes to child labor laws that may have an effect on farmers across the country. The proposal includes regulations preventing paid workers 15 years and younger from operating most heavy-duty farming machines, as well as restricting anybody under the age of 18 from working with raw farm materials. Regulators say the new proposals put more emphasis on child safety.
